Blessings

I've been working on getting my Bachelor's degree for the past six years.

Yes, six.

I know that is two more than normal, and no, I did not serve a mission.

However, I did get a few extra blessings along the way that sidetracked my progress a bit.

***

If I don't graduate at the end of this fall semester, my goal of getting my Bachelor's degree will be gone.

Yes, I could continue, but my "catalog year" will be up, and because of that, the requirements for me to graduate will change, which would include me doing an internship.

I can't do an internship.

Today I called the online advising department at BYU-Idaho because a class I am supposed to take isn't being offered online currently. They told me not to worry, it will be offered in the fall. I told them I was so glad, because if it was offered any later than that, I wouldn't be able to graduate.

I then asked them to look at my grad plan to make sure I was still on track and everything looked good. They said I was, and it looks like I can even graduate early, because I only need two more classes!

I didn't understand why, because I actually need six more.

They said one class I need to take was going to be offered this semester, but won't be until Winter semester, 2013.

Which means I can't graduate.

They said, no, I can, but with a University Studies degree instead of Communications.

I was devastated.

I cried.

A lot.

Mostly on Cody.

And then, I said a prayer, and called the Head Department Chair of Communications Board,
Brother Mike Cannon.

I explained my situation.

He told me he would personally teach me that class online. I would be the only student. He would do this, so I could achieve my goal.

Some people might think it's silly for me to continue being in school when honestly, I am expecting to do nothing with my degree. I don't want to go out and get a job as a PR executive, an HR representative, a journalist, a broadcaster, an advertiser or any other number of things I could do with my degree.

But to me, getting it is huge. It's what I've wanted my whole life. I've never changed majors. I've always wanted this.

Today I was given a huge blessing. And I wanted to publicly say, thank you.

Thank you to Brother Cannon, who was the answer to my prayer.

Thank you to my amazing husband who has supported me in this goal, the entire time, knowing it means he has to make dinners, he cleans, takes the girls places so I can do my homework in a quiet house, and even changes a poopy diaper here and there.

Thank you to my Heavenly Father, who heard my prayer and blessed me to be able to reach this goal. It has not been easy. But it will be worth it.

YAY! I am so happy that someone would help you get it worked out and let you get this done without having to walk away. Remember - our family motto - "There's always a way!" And with Supreme help, you found the way! Thanks to Cody too for being so wonderful to let you cry on his shoulder! He is a terrific support! YAY for you!!!

Such a great ending to a crazy 6 years! And I think it's great that it's so important to you to get your bachelor's degree. I completely agree that it's important, even if you never "use" your degree in the workplace.

It doesn't matter WHY you want the degree. The fact is that you want it and you've been working hard for it and you need to be darned proud of yourself for earning it. And we need to have a party when you do.

Isn't it so wonderful when good people are willing to help us on our journey?

(By the way, it took my 9 years to get my Bachelor's degree. Yes, I went on a mission, but still. NINE.)

Good for you! I think it is so amazing that you've stuck with it through having two kids and everything that comes with being a momma. What a wonderful example you will be to your daughters.
