Cry It Out

When Chloe was 2 1/2 months old, Cody and I decided it was time she learned how to sleep on her own. We would put her in her crib for her naps -without her being asleep first- and let her cry herself to sleep. It took about a week, but she learned how to put herself to sleep and is still a great, great sleeper.

Preslie turned 3 months on Sunday and we still hadn't done this. She screams her head off when she's tired, and I'm the only one that can get her to calm down and go to sleep. It's pretty hard when I'm here alone, trying to take care of and entertain Chloe, and trying to get Preslie to calm down at the same time. Last night I really had some sewing I needed to do, and Preslie was freaking out, so I decided it was time to start letting her cry it out.

Last night she cried for LESS than 10 minutes! It was FABULOUS! She totally put herself to sleep and it was so awesome.

Today is not so awesome. I just put her down like 2 minutes ago...but she's totally freaking out. I want to just go in and hold her and lay by her....but I can't! I need her to learn. (I'm saying all these things to make myself feel better...)

Hopefully she stops crying soon! I feel so so sad for her.

.....it's been 7 minutes. she's starting to calm down.

Just kidding.

10 minutes. She just stopped crying...Just kidding again. Should I go in and calm her down? I think so.

K I went in, she was still wrapped up! So I rubbed her eyebrows for a few - like 2 or 3 minutes - and now she's quiet. She kinda fell asleep while I was rubbing her eyebrows. Is that cheating?

It's been 3 minutes! She hasn't cried at all yet!!! ......I hope she sleeps for awhile in there. She usually only naps for like 30 minutes unless I'm holding her the whole time. We'll see!!!

I'm so glad she's sleeping her in crib!! Woohoo, Preslie!!!!!!

Yeah I've never been real good at that. We've tried with Gage, and NO lying...he screamed for an hour and a half....I'm pretty sure I cried that whole time too. It was aweful.

that is seriously going to be the hardest thing for me, but i know its a total necessity! they are totally fine crying, but it makes us feel sad. :( i hate when my sisters do it and im at their houses.. i just want to go rescue their children! anyway, its not cheating, its transitioning, she still cried for 10min :) but tomorrow, no eyebrow rubbing! haha jk

Good job, Susie! I'm so proud of you - for letting her cry a bit, but then going in to settle her down. It made all the difference. And look at how beautiful she is sleeping there on Carol's quilt! So beautiful! Also, I can't wait to hear how long she slept!

That is so exciting! (But it is so hard on us moms!) So are her and Chloe in the same room now?

My husband would love you! I just can't do it, so after almost 11 months we still have a baby sharing our bed. Once it all passes, though; I'm sure you'll be glad you did it :D. She is SO beautiful. That's a great picture of her.
