Miss USA Pageant

*Beware, this is very long and may be offensive to some.
**I'm not trying to be offensive, but if you are...too bad. This is my blog and if you disagree, make your own.

This past Sunday the Miss USA Pageant was held. I was thrilled, of course, and while we watched it I kept score. I wish I hadn't thrown my score sheets away so I could tell you all how I rated the girls...but I did. By the time the final question was coming up, I had rated the girls to know that it was going to be between the winner, Miss North Carolina, and the runner-up, Miss California. (I'm practicing my judging skills so someday, when the Donald calls me up to be a judge, I'll be prepared.)

For the girls final question, I thought some did ok, some did a lot better than others. Miss North Carolina was asked a question about the government bailing out small businesses, and if she thought it was ok for tax payers money to go towards that. She said no, it should go towards education and health care. I thought she did a great job and I believe I gave her a 9.

When Miss California picked her final question, it was for judge Perez Hilton, who is openly gay. He asked a question about whether or not more states, like Vermont, should allow for same-sex marriage. Kudos to Miss California who said, "I think it's great that American's can choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage, or opposite marriage. And you know what? In my country, and in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman -- no offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be. Between a man and a woman. Thank you."

Booyah Miss California. Booyah.

It cut back to Perez, who was shaking his head.

This morning, Perez as well as Miss Calfornia, were on the Today Show. Matt first spoke to Perez, who said he expected her to be prepared for her question. He believes she wasn't prepared and that's why she said what she said. He also said he expects a PERFECT Miss USA, and California's answer was degrading to all gays, lesbians, their families, co-workers and support systems. He said a better answer would have been-I"m leaving my politics out of it, but I think it's great for states to make their own decisions on those subjects.

Seriously? Seriously?!

I think Miss California's answer was amazing. I gave her a 9.5 (I don't believe in giving 10's...Although if I did, she would've gotten a great big one). No one is perfect, Perez. Not even Miss USA. I'm sure people recieving money from the government to bailout their businesses were perhaps offended by Miss North Carolina's answer. Why didn't you think about them? Not only was Miss California standing up for herself, her beliefs and her God, she is teaching all the little girls out there watching that it is OK to stand up for yourself. It is OK to say exactly what you believe. I think it is so sad that in the 21'st century, we are still judged by our beliefs. We are still looked down upon if we believe in God. We are judged by those who are homosexual, saying we are closeminded. No, I'm not closeminded. I don't come and persecute you for doing what you do. I honestly don't care what you do! You have your free agency, and I respect that. If you choose to be homosexual, fine. I'm not going to, so I won't eventually be judged for that choice.

I just want to be clear. I DO NOT THINK homosexuals are bad people. I have friends that are gay. I do not know any gays that are mean, horrible people. I don't. I think there are probably some gay people that are..I also think there are straight people that are. I just don't condone their choice to be gay.

Absolutely, without a doubt, Miss California's answer to this question caused her the crown. Maybe the reason I have such strong feelings about this is because this SAME thing happened to me, 5 years ago.

I was participating in the same contest (Just Miss Illinois Teen USA--definitely not the Miss USA Pageant or even the Miss Teen USA Pageant) about 5 years ago. For one reason or another, I knew a question I would be asked was, "How do you feel about same sex marriage?" Because I knew they would ask me this questions ahead of time, I had plenty of time to think of my answer. And it was asked. It was my second question. When the judge asked me, I looked him straight in the eye and said "I believe marriage is ordained of God to be between a man and a woman." End of story. That's what I believe. They ALL immediately looked down and started writing away. And then I knew-I might as well go home. I'm done here. But I was happy I stood up for myself and my beliefs. I was so proud of myself. I knew that if I had said something a LOT more PC, like -As long as everyone is happy, I think our country can be made a better place...I probably would've had a better chance. (I still don't think I would've won-I didn't care about it enough to win. But I would've gotten a better interview score.)

So I just want to say I am SO PROUD of Miss California. Perez said he was giving her an easy question. Giving her an easy way out. Yeah, an easy way to please you. An easy way to please all the people of California who fought against Prop 8. Who still fight against it. Who are closeminded towards US, who believe marriage is for a man and a woman. We live in a country that gives you the freedom to do that. To fight us about this issue. It also gives us the right to fight back.

And don't forget. Most homosexuals are allllllll about President Obama. I am all for supporting our president, and I think most homosexuals are, too. In an interview with Rick Warren, President Obama was asked, "Define marriage." Obama replies, "I belive that marriage is the union between a man and a woman."

So booyah to Miss Calfornia for standing up for what you believe. And booyah to you, Perez. Maybe you should learn how to open your mind a little more.

i don't disagree with her statement, but she didn't answer the question correctly. the question asked if states should follow vermont, and why. she should have said, "no, the states should not because..." and then added on her tid bit about how she was raised.

I think it is ridiculous Perez Hilton was even a judge. What kind of credentials does this guys have? HE IS A GOSSIP BLOGGER!! The question was loaded...and if she would have answered in favor of same-sex marriage she wouldn't have been publicly berated the way she has the past couple of days. Maybe she didn't give the best answer possible...but she was asked "do you think"

Obviously Stacey...I agree

I love that you still keep score! I remember you participating in the Ms. Teen IL...that was a fun time :) I agree w/ you absolutely, and the saddest part is, is that we are being persecuted for our beliefs as they twist the truth and try to put the shame on us. If there was a way to contact the Miss America organization, I would write them a letter/email.

Double Booyah!!

That's all I can say about that.

Double BOOYAH!!

Oh, and Stacey I know how you knew what the question would be.

Yeah she should have won solely on the fact she answered the question honestly. Without taking a popularity vote about the answer.

booyah

Awesome Stacey! You're the best! That's amazing that it happened to you too - I didn't remember that! I agree a little with Erin that she didn't really answer the question but I think you're right that what he was really asking was what were her beliefs and she stated them and the audience SUPER cheered! And I love that you keep score too. come on - you totally got that from me. :)
