MORE bugs

Yes, this is another post about bugs. I know, I know..You're probably all like-We know you don't like bugs, get over it already.

I don't think you understand.

This is a SERIOUS PROBLEM.

About 7 minutes ago, I was laying on the couch, slowly drifting off to sleep. I was so happy. I love falling asleep. It's one of my favorite things. I opened my eyes just one more time before I was completely gone and I saw this..thing. SPRINTING towards me. I thought it was just another big, black bug. NOPE. A ginormous spider like the one I had killed with Cody's shoe not too long ago. I JUMPED up, screaming, "OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH, OH MY GOSH!!!" I ran and got a vase (it's my bug trapping device...I just wish it wasn't see-through) and captured it. Oh, you've got to be kidding me. It gave me a contraction. Stupid, lame spider.

I think I'm developing a phobia. Every night, before I go to bed, I have to check my bed for bugs. I sleep with 3 pillows...One body pillow for behind me, one between my legs, and then just a regular pillow, and I check them all for bugs. I pull the covers all the way back and check for bugs. I have to sleep with my hair over my ears because I am terrified that a bug will crawl inside. I used to be very particular about where the covers went (they had to cover my mouth, but not be too close to my nose) because I didn't want a bug to just be able to walk right in. When I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, I crawl down my bed instead of getting off (even though it's so uncomfortable and kinda hard) because I can't see the floor to know if I'm going to step on bugs. When I wake up in the morning, and everytime I go to the bathroom, I lift up all the seats on the toilet to make sure no bugs are hiding anywhere. Before I take a shower, I check both curtains for bugs. I always hit my loofah against something multiple times before using it to make sure there is nothing inside, waiting to come out while I wash. And when I get out of the shower, I bang my towel against the wall to make those stupid things fall out. I do my makeup sitting on the counter (I have to admit, it is pretty comfortable and I'd probably do it anyway) because for awhile our sinks didn't have floorboards or baseboards, and I found a bug inside once.

I know. I told you it was a serious problem.

Are all first level apartments like this? It really isn't as bad as it was my last bug post...But I'm pretty sure this is a hobo spider! The second one in our apartment!! (I'll comfirm that when Cody comes home to kill it) I haven't ever been on a first level apartment before, so I don't really know how bad all the bugs are..But it's making me hate this place...Not our apartment so much, but the people in charge of it. I know it's not really their fault...But I need someone to blame it on.

So, I would most definitley make sure that the landlords take care of the bug problem before the baby comes! (which is so soon and I am so excited) because you don't want to have to worry about checking all the baby's blankets every time you put her to bed. And you will want to be able to lay her on the floor without worrying about a hobo coming running at her! And you want the bug spray smell to be gone from your house before the baby gets there. That stuff can't be good for them. We lived in a basement in Rexburg and we had a ton of Hobos but then we also lived in a first floor appartment and there was never one. I think they should be able to fix the problem.

Yeah, I think it's a definite problem. I think I saw maybe 2-3 bugs the entire time we lived at the village, and we were there 2 1/2 years. We lived in two different bottom floor apartments and never had a problem. Another idea - get some bug bombs and leave for the day. I don't think you should have to put up with it!

We had a few when we first moved in because it had been vacant for a while, but nothing really since. I think the apartment should spray and take care of the problem, it is there responsibility! You should go have them do it this weekend!!!

EEEEWWWWW. That's really gross. And disturbing. But kind of funny too.

You need to tell your landlord. Ew.

We don't really have problems! Well, if we leave the sliding door open, sometimes they find their way around the screen! I would tell them to fix it! It is their responsibility! When I was in Florida we had lizards in our apartment all the time, I am not sure which is worse!

Ok so I live on the bottom floor and I kill at lesat one huge spider a day they always find away to get in our house even if you spray. You know no matter where you are there is always a spider within three feet of you or so the discovery channel says. I find spider webs in my shoes to They wont hurt you though unless they are a black widow which I found outside of my apartment the other day !! Maybe thats just because I live in Oregon. I called a bug company and they said well spiders eat bugs so keep your house bug free and it will be spider free thats not much help but it kinda works if you can find and kill all the bugs.

O my gosh--I can totally relate to you--this is horrible. You should have the management have a professional exterminator come a.s.a.p. And then you should have one of those bug bombs and then set out spider traps, to make sure they all die. Because Fall is coming and the bugs are looking for shelter. Dont mean to freak you out even more but if you dont take care of it now im afraid that its going to be to late.

Oh man that totally sucks! I am so sorry about the bugs. When we had tons of bugs when we first moved in I decided (or maybe Seth decided) to face my fears and kill the spiders myself. After a lot of dead spiders my fear had gone away- a least a little.

Oh and PS- I love your new background and pic at the top!

Okay, I don't think you're that crazy b/c everything you just described yourself doing I do the EXACT same things!! I'm not even kidding, Ryan and Cody could probably compare notes on how crazy we both are about the bug thing. lol. I wish we didn't live on a 1st floor apt. I wish I had known about the bug thing before we got this apt. (we've been here for 4 years!) I can't wait to move in december and not live in a 1st floor apt. ever again!

mmm no, not all first floor apts are like that. ive lived in three first floors, and none of them were like that. :(

Suzie! I just finally made myself look up on the web (that's funny! considering spiders!) about hobo spiders - and here's what they said about that:
"The best protection against hobo spiders in one's home is probably the presence of other spiders, such as the giant house spider (Tegenaria duellica; formerly Tegenaria gigantea) that will compete with them for territory and food and often kill them in confrontations.[1] Killing all spiders by using insecticides can result in the proliferation of a single species when its competition disappears, and since spiders consume many household pest insects, eliminating spiders can have serious consequences.[1] Chemical control of spiders is not recommended and should be considered only as a last resort"

Just thought you might want to know! Love, Mom

FIRST you should try using a bug bomb in the house (you can get them at walmart), you use one and then four to six weeks later you do it again to kill all the bugs that might have come in since the last time and that might have come from eggs.

THEN you should look into getting some permethrin. It's supposed to be safe for humans but kill most bugs on contact. You put one or two parts permethrin with several parts water in a spray bottle and and spray around your doorway, windows (if you can reach them) and any other entrances or cracks in your home.

Of course, you should get your husband to do all of this since you're expecting because you don't want to be around any chemicals that could potentially be dangerous (even if they say they're not).

This has worked for us and we are in a first level apartment that had LOTS of bugs when we first moved in.

Sorry for the marathon comment. Hope that helps.

Oh, I would just die! I HATE spiders!!! I was talking to friends the other day who live over on Andrews and Everett Place (first-level), and they seem to have the same problems. Lame! Maybe your landlords can put that stuff that goes around the perimeter of the place outside to keep them from coming inside. I forget what it's called.
PS- of course you know, but you're getting so close to your due date! I am so excited for you and can't wait to see the little babe!

GROSS! I am sorry that you have so many bugs! They have like spray that can go around the whole perimeter of your living space. They also have things that you can plug into the wall that are supposed to send out some kind of high pitch wave length thing that only bugs can hear. It worked really well for my parents and they live on 10 acres! GO in the office and start crying when you talk to them about the bugs. You can get away with it cause you are pregnant. lol

Do you remember all the hobo's we used to have at the old CFR building? When I would clean the bathroom downstairs they would creep out from under the couch. Yucky. I didn't have to deal with them at home though. Sorry about the rotten luck.
