Cody's New Job

Cody started his new job yesterday at Solar Turbines. It was a day full of meeting with HR, watching movies about safety, confidentiality and sexual harassment and filling out paperwork. He got to meet a lot of other people that were also starting that day (all the new employee's start on the same day so they can have one big HR day instead of tons) and told me all about the company when he came home. It was so cool!

The building where he was yesterday is where The Spirit of St. Louis was built. You know, the plane Charles Lindbergh flew? And apparently the man who built it haunts the building and you can still see his ghost roaming the halls. I don't think I'd freak out if I saw a ghost....But that would still be kinda freaky to see!!!

One of the founders of the company didn't take any money for himself for 8 years until the company had started making money. Then he started receiving a salary. Can you believe it?! 8 years! That's a LONG time to go without a paycheck!

They have a chapel on the company property. They're one of two companies in America that has a chapel on work property. They wanted a place where workers could go to just get away and relax and meditate. The company bought all the supplies and told the workers to build it if they wanted it. They did - in their spare time! Isn't that cool?

When the company started in 1929 they were building planes. Since it was the depression and no one wanted a plane they switched to just building anything (like frying pans). They got a contract to build something -can't remember what - for $500. Then they got another contract to build something else....an after...something. I can't remember what it's called either. It's After something because I asked Cody what it meant and he said "You've never heard of after....?" and I said, "No, I've heard of afterbirth......."

Anyway.

They got that contract for $5000. They wanted to take it, but they didn't have any money to pay their employees so they told them they had a contract but couldn't pay them. They said if they would do it without pay, they'd pay them when it was done. After 7 months, they finished the contract and the company paid all the employees, and gave them each $100 bonus! Which, I'm sure, in the Great Depression was a lot.

I am so excited for Cody to start working with Solar Turbines and I'm so glad I haven't heard one bad thing about this company! I can't wait to learn more about it!!

Just Us

Chloe was REALLY grumpy and acting tired one day...but it wasn't naptime yet so we weren't putting her down. I was taking a shower and Cody was with the kids. Chloe went into the kitchen and he thought she was pretty quiet...So he went to see what she was doing and this is what he found...

She didn't even make it to the rug! Haha So cute!

I LOVE doing crafty things and Chloe does too! One day I cut out a cloud shape on a piece of paper and cut a bunch of "raindrops" out of blue scrapbook paper. Chloe and I went outside and looked at the clouds and I told her about the rain and how it comes from clouds. Then we put some glue on a paper plate, gave her a Q-Tip and she went to town gluing those raindrops onto the cloud! I ended up having to cut out raindrops 3 or 4 times cause she didn't want to stop. Her cloud was filled!

One day Chloe and I were taking a walk and she started playing in the dirt. It got EVERYWHERE and she loved it! I told Cody, "We're learning about dirt!" He said, "Are you going to sit her on an anthill and teach her about ants?" :)

Preslie is super into spitting right now and she loves to lay on her tummy! I swear she's about to start crawling - she gets up on her hands and knees (and sometimes hands and feet!) and rocks back and forth. She just started going to sleep without her arms being swaddled in her blanket - she started turning over while she was sleeping and couldn't get back on her back! She is totally sleeping through the night now (I still wake up every once and a while to give her her pacifier in the night) and remember how I tried to teach her how to put herself to sleep? For some odd reason I gave up on that...But I started again just yesterday! I'm proud to report for her morning nap today she did it and didn't even cry! Woohoo, Preslie!

Chloe LOVES being outside and will point to the door, bring you her shoes and say - bye bye! Bye bye! Bye bye! Over and over and over. Unfortunately its been getting REALLY hot here lately so we have to go out only in the morning and late evening. During the day it's usually about 100. She sometimes likes to be in the swimming pool but has only gone in with me and doesnt like being in very long. She still loves reading books and LOVES her Mr. Potato Head toy and when she gets it out she'll laugh so hard because she's so excited! We just took her to the dr because her feet started peeling really weird and he said she has eczema on them and is allergic to her sweat. He also said it might be a little bit of athletes foot so we're putting cream on it and it's looking a lot better! She doesn't ever use her binky anymore, except when she's sleeping. She is so good at putting it back in her crib and she knows she's a big girl and doesn't need it in the day! Now we'll just have to wean her from it at night.
She is still getting bottles, and I'm ok with it! She only gets it twice a day and that's basically the only milk she'll drink..So I'm ok with it for now!

Cody and I are the same-he starts work on the 28! We're so excited! There is a man in our ward, and another one in our stake, that work for the company he'll be working for. We've only heard good things about the company from everyone in the ward! It sounds like a fabulous place to be working and we feel so blessed he got a job there!

Yesterday Cody had to go to San Diego to do some tests before he starts work - a blood test and a drug test and he'll have to have a physical. I went with him and we had a lot of fun downtown! We went to eat at this AMAZING seafood place - Blue Water Seafood Market and Grill. They were featured on one of our favorite shows, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives from the Food Channel. We were really excited to go there; the food was SO great and the atmosphere was so fun! I honestly could eat there every day. Cody ordered a chipotle sea bass sandwich and I ordered a Dungeness Crab Sandwich that came with thousand island dressing, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and coleslaw on toasted sourdough bread. YUM. Hungry yet? Before we got our food we talked about how our sandwiches would probably be pretty small and my crab was probably a crab patty with other things mixed in. Not at all! Cody's piece of fish was probably five inches long and two inches thick and my crab was just yummy, fabulous crab. I cannot stop thinking about it or talking about it. Oh goodness it was amazing. If you're ever in San Diego and like fish, you HAVE to go there!

Mother's Day

This Mother's Day was quite the adventure. Two days before, Cody, Dirk and Cory had worked at a race that Dirk's work was sponsoring. It was 3 1/2 hours away and they planned to leave right after the race was over (11:30 Saturday night) and get home around 2 am Sunday morning. (Pictures of the race and the cool things they discovered coming soon)

I woke up at 3:30 am because Preslie was crying. She went right back to sleep after I gave her her pacifer, but I didn't. Cody still wasn't there.

I texted him a few minutes later asking where they were.

No response.

I texted him 15 minutes later.

No response.

Now, I am my father's daughter. I worry about EVERYTHING. I never did before, when I lived with my parents, because my dad did all of that for me. But now that I'm on my own, I worry. Basically all.the.time.

I went downstairs to see if they had come home and just hadn't made it to bed yet. Nope. I almost went outside to see if the truck was back, but...I worry. I was worried some scary person might grab me if I went outside.

I almost woke up Tami and asked if she had heard anything, but decided I'd learn soon enough if they were dead and I might as well try to get some sleep before I knew for sure.

Sleep did NOT come. By about 4:45 am I was crying and crying, laying in bed, all alone. I was thinking

-we should've gotten life insurance
-what do I do now?!
-I have to change my blog name (Seriously. I even came up with another one....But now I can't remember it)

Along with lots of other things that were more important than blog names.

(Ok, so the thing that made me start crying....Pathetic, so don't make fun: The last 2 years on our wedding anniversary (as well as Valentine's Day) Cody and I have celebrated at Taco Bell. I started thinking, every year on July 15, I'll have to go to Taco Bell by myself! ...Yeah, I was crying a lot about that!)

At 5:30 am Preslie woke up, followed by Chloe at 6. Around 6:45 I looked in the kitchen and saw Dirk! They were alive!

Dirk had gotten really tired on the way home so they stopped to sleep. They couldn't tell us, though, because all three of their phones had died!

So Cody and Dirk stayed home from church to sleep - Cory had been sleeping the whole time in the truck so he came with us. When we got back home, I took a nap cause I was exhausted! We had a yummy dinner and then watched The Sound of Music! (What other day would the guys be ok with watching that?) :)

Cody got me a rotary cutter! Yeah! It is so pretty and has gerber daisies on it. I love it! He didn't buy a mat because at the only craft store in this town they are WAY expensive, but I just saw one at Walmart for only $10! I think I'll have to pick it up. Chloe also drew me a picture and I loved it!

For our moms for mother's day we wanted to take pictures of the girls and get them printed and framed for them. But having secret photo shoots is hard to do when you live with your mother-in-law! We finally got it done, (in matching outfits AND bows!) but it was after mother's day..Woops. The pictures didn't even turn out at all because Chloe had a horrible diaper rash and didn't want to sit down and Preslie was bent over the whole time eating Chloe's toes.

\

*Anytime we ask Chloe to smile she gives us a crooked one. I don't know why!

*Preslie LOVES toes and will eat (or try to eat) any that are within reach

*Chloe trying to get away from the camera!

*Me and my girls!
*Could we have gotten a more unflattering picture of me??

We gave up on that photoshoot since there weren't any that were turning out ok and had another one that wasn't secret at all. Tami ahd Dirk helped to keep the kids looking at Cody and smiling.

Happy Mother's Day to all you fabulous mothers out there! I'm so grateful for my mom and mother-in-law. They have taught me so much! Love you guys!
